Military pilots and veterans: FAA certificates under §61.73

If you do not yet hold an FAA airman certificate, 14 CFR §61.73 lets qualifying U.S. military pilots and former military pilots use military flight experience, plus a military competency knowledge test, toward a commercial certificate with instrument rating and, where earned, a type rating. Take the knowledge test at a local Flight Standards District Office (FSDO). Put the type rating for your training aircraft on the commercial certificate when you can (for example, BE-400 or MU-300). That type rating moves up when you later hold an FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate.
