Topics covered in the ATP CTP course include aerodynamics, automation, adverse weather conditions, air carrier operations, transport airplane performance, professionalism and leadership development, runway incursion avoidance, stall prevention and recovery, high altitude operations, and crosswind takeoffs and landings in adverse weather.

Entry requirements
ATP CTP Course Entry Requirements
- Hold an FAA Commercial Pilot certificate with Instrument and Multiengine Land Class ratings
- Or military equivalent experience
- Or an equivalent CPL Multiengine Instrument foreign pilot license
- Read, speak, write, and understand the English language
TSA requirements
- Be a United States citizen or permanent resident
- Or be a foreign pilot client approved by the TSA (Category 1, 2, or 4 approval required)

Virtual classroom
The ATP CTP ground school is taught in the ATP CTP virtual classroom, followed by simulator modules at a training location.
ATM knowledge test and Sheppard Air
When you enroll, you receive Sheppard Air ATM knowledge-test prep access. The ATP CTP itself is not built to teach the ATM test. Start Sheppard Air at least two weeks before day one.
FAA Note: The ATP CTP covers specific subjects required by regulation. The Airline Transport Pilot Multi-Engine (ATM) knowledge test questions are developed by the FAA separately from required ATP CTP course content. It’s important to understand that even though the ATP CTP is a prerequisite for the knowledge test, the ATP CTP is not designed to prepare you for the ATM knowledge test.

We offer the ATP CTP academics in the virtual classroom, with simulator training at our DFW, Dallas, Buildings 1 and 2 (TX), Las Vegas NV, and Orlando FL training centers, and in Sanford FL in the Boeing 737-300 Classic. We project instructor availability month by month. Dates are solid, but the hour-by-hour breakdown comes together as we get closer. Choose your preferred dates and location.
What are the classes like?
Classes are small and personalized, with experienced staff and instructors and full flight simulators.
